A car slammed into a tree and caught fire just after midnight Tuesday on the Merritt Parkway in Trumbull.

Firefighters responded to the scene, but the driver initially ran away.

State police say Sebastian Rodriguez later returned in another vehicle.

He was ticketed for the crash and for failing to renew his registration.
