A crash shut down a stretch of Interstate 95 northbound between exits 4 and 5 in Greenwich Wednesday afternoon for a couple hours after reports of an injury and a fuel spill.
Preliminary information indicates a passenger was traveling in the right lane of three on I‑95 Northbound, south of Exit 5 around noon. According to state police, the car swerved into the right shoulder and struck a metal beam guardrail and a light pole resulting in a tractor trailer blocking the northbound lanes.
Police say the driver of the car was taken to a local hospital for suspected injuries.
Officials also say a fuel spill was involved, adding to the response and cleanup effort.
Traffic began moving in the area around 2 p.m., according to officials.
