A truck chemical leak at a Stamford gas station led to the temporary closure of roadways in the area.
The Stamford Fire Department, alongside state police and DEEP emergency services, responded to an incident around 10:45 a.m. for a call regarding a vehicle on fire at the Shell gas station off exit 6 of Interstate 95.
Officials say firefighters found that the vehicle was not on fire, but rather a flash fire was occurring from a chemical tank. The fire was put out using a dry chemical extinguisher that was at the gas station.
Despite the fire being put out, firefighters were still concerned about the spilling gas, causing state police to shut down surrounding streets.
The incident resulted in the temporary closing of exit 6 to allow for proper handling of the leak, and the closure of West Avenue and Grenhart Road.
Stamford firefighters determined that moving the vehicle to a more densely populated area along Brown House Road was the best course of action to allow for DEEP to properly handle the leak.
All roadways have since reopened.
