New Canaan remains one of the hardest-hit communities in the immediate area after the weekend storm.
People are still without power, and trees and debris remain scattered throughout town. With more rain falling Monday, officials say there is concern about additional problems.
As of 5 a.m. Monday, Eversource said 25% of New Canaan was still without power. That was down from 60% Sunday morning.
Sky Mercede of Forever Sweet Bakery in Norwalk, who lives in New Canaan, sent video and photos showing damage near Carter Street.
Eversource continues to assess widespread damage and work to restore power to affected customers.
The town said the YMCA will be open for residents to shower and charge devices while crews continue restoration work. It will be open from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and will not provide towels, so residents must bring their own.
Officials are also concerned about the heavy rain expected over the next 24 hours, saying it could create more trouble, especially if homeowners do not regain power before the risk of a flooded basement.
