The helicopters seen flying over Bridgeport and Fairfield are conducting a routine testing procedure, a U.S. Army Special Operations Command spokesperson said Wednesday.

Many residents have reported seeing the Chinook helicopters over the past few days.

The spokesperson said the procedure is being done to perform function checks.

They added that all requirements to do this were submitted and approved by the Federal Aviation Administration and the local tower manager.

News 12 has reached out to officials to see how long the flights will continue and is waiting to hear back. News 12 also reached out to several other agencies and departments for additional information, but did not hear back.
