Norwalk police say two men have been arrested following a shots‑fired incident Thursday afternoon near Girard and Silk streets.
According to investigators, dispatchers received a report around 4:22 p.m. from a caller who heard multiple gunshots and found a shell casing in the roadway.
Officers responding to the area encountered several individuals believed to be involved. Police say one of them, Norwalk resident 18‑year‑old Melvin Garcia, ran from officers, prompting a foot chase.
During the pursuit, Garcia allegedly threw a firearm under a parked van on Silk Street.
Officers took Garcia into custody and recovered the weapon, identified as a 9mm Glock with a large‑capacity magazine.
Police say their investigation led them to a second suspect 34‑year‑old Jose Morales, of Norwalk, who they said fired a gun at another person during an altercation on Silk Street. Morales was arrested at his home without incident.
Garcia is charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal possession of a large‑capacity magazine, and interfering with an officer.
Morales' charges include criminal possession of a firearm, illegal discharge of a firearm, first‑degree reckless endangerment and criminal attempt to commit first‑degree assault.
Both Morales’ and Garcia’s bonds were sent at $250,000, with a court date of July 23.
