An alleged burglary in progress was reported at an occupied home on Five Mile River Road in Darien early Thursday morning.
The homeowner told police that three individuals were trying to get inside the house at about 6 a.m.
Darien police say that during the incident, the homeowner confronted the suspects after entering the home with a hidden key.
The homeowner noticed one of the three suspects were armed with a handgun and discharged their own firearm at the suspects.
Following the discharge of the weapon, the suspects fled the scene.
During the initial investigation, Darien detectives determined that a male juvenile potentially linked to the case arrived at Bridgeport Hospital suffering a gunshot wound, and was rushed to surgery.
The juvenile is reported to be in stable condition and detectives are continuing to look into the individuals possible connection to the case.
Further investigation into the case led Darien police to collaborate with Fairfield police to determine that the suspects vehicle used in the incident was stolen from a residence in Fairfield prior to the incident the attempted burglary.
The vehicle has been seized as evidence by the Darien police, and the department says no further details will be released at this time.
