More than 5,100 homes and businesses are expected to lose water service following a major water main break Tuesday in Waterbury.

The break happened on Tompkins Street near Kaynor Technical High School. City officials say customers in the affected area will lose water once a nearby storage tank is depleted.

The mayor says crews are working to repair the break, with repairs currently expected to be completed by Thursday evening.
