Five straight years makes it a tradition.
The Premier Lacrosse League makes its return to Rafferty Stadium at Fairfield University this weekend.
"Connecticut is a lacrosse hotbed," says Andrew Sinnenberg, chief operating officer of the league. "It's going to be a special environment with a ton of great fans, and a lot of great energy."
The festivities kicked off Friday night with two games and will continue throughout the weekend with two games on Saturday, and one more on Sunday.
The newly formed Women's Lacrosse League played a game under the lights Friday night.
"I just can't wait to see lacrosse grow, especially the highlight on women's lacrosse," says attendee Amber Lee Jones. "That's the reason why I brought my son tonight because I want him, and the next generation of boys and men, to really see what women are capable of."
Sinnenberg says the PLL makes sure to come back to Fairfield every summer partly because of pros with Fairfield County ties.
"We have (Shea) Dolce, we have (Caylee) Waters, and we have the Humphrey sisters," says Sinnenbrg. "When you look at the PLL, we have Xander Dickson, we have Conor Kelly. All local players whose families are here, their friends are here. They're playing on the fields they played on growing up."
The actual games are just a small part of the celebration.
There's a fan zone outside the stadium featuring food, drinks, interactive booths, team merchandise and more for parents and families to enjoy.
"I think it's a great family sport, kids love to come and do this kind of stuff," says attendee MaryAnne Flocco. "And it will encourage them to be great athletes and maybe play the sport professionally someday."
