Shelton police officers responded to reports of a red-tailed hawk that was injured and hugging the barrier of route 8 in Shelton.
Officers halted traffic to allow for the safe and proper rescue of the hawk.
The hawk was later transported to "A Place Called Hope" animal rehabilitation center for evaluation and care.
The adult male red-tailed hawk was said to be suffering from severe head trauma, with an posterior eye injury that has to be evaluated by the center.
The center said there was blood in the hawk's mouth and trachea, but no bones appear to bebroken.
The bird was given pain management, anti-inflammatory meds and subcutaneous fluids, according to the rehabilitation center.
