A person and a dog have died following a fire in Monroe, fire officials said.

Firefighters responded to a fire on Cottage Street just before midnight. Upon their arrival, firefighters found the two-story home engulfed in fire.

During a search, firefighters found one deceased adult and a deceased dog. The person has not been identified.

Crews remained on scene for several hours to put out any hot spots.

No firefighters were injured.

Officials say the area did not have any fire hydrants. They also say additional firefighters and tanker trucks were called to assist at the fire and provide station coverage.

Monroe police, EMS and the Fire Marshal's Office also responded.

It's not clear what caused the fire.
