During Domestic Violence Awareness month, officials are giving out new details about the extent of domestic violence in the state.
Despite domestic violence going down, according to 40 years of state data, officials say there are still 1,500-1,600 incidents every year.
They say a third of all homicides can be tied to domestic violence.
Women are disproportionately the victim, and men are more likely to be the offenders.
Advocates say more work needs to be done to prevent domestic violence incidents.
"Investment and prevention have to work with essential crisis services, says Meghan Scanlon, with Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence. "That means training and education have to be with our employers, our educators, have to be with our first responders and others."
The state has a text to 911 service if you don't feel safe calling. You can also call the state's domestic violence hotline at 888-774-2900.
