A major emergency response unfolded Thursday on the Appalachian Trail in Kent after a hiker was injured.
The incident prompted a large‑scale rescue effort involving roughly 75 people, according to the Kent Volunteer Fire Department.
Fire officials say multiple agencies assisted in navigating the rugged terrain to reach and stabilize the hiker.
During the operation, three firefighters suffered heat‑related illnesses.
One was taken to the hospital for treatment and has since been released.
