Two state lawmakers are pushing for new legislation aimed at preventing rape both on and off college campuses.
The move comes in the wake of the gang rape accusations at Cornell university, where both of those lawmakers graduated.
Connecticut State Sens. Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox and Tony Hwang are pursuing bipartisan legislation to strengthen sexual assault laws following an alleged gang rape at Cornell, their shared alma mater.
The proposed legislative measures aim to close the voluntary intoxication loophole to ensure legal technicalities do not compromise victim protections or excuse sexual violence.
Although Hwang is not seeking re-election, he continues to support the initiative alongside local advocates who are demanding urgent legal reform.
