A New Haven man is facing charges after police say he stabbed another man during a street fight in Bridgeport Friday evening, according to the Bridgeport Police Department.
Police say 36‑year‑old Yannick Williams stabbed another man during a fight near Iranistan Avenue and State Street around 7 p.m.
An officer applied a tourniquet before the victim was taken to Bridgeport Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.
The stabbing left the victim in need of emergency surgery for a serious arm wound.
Police say a knife believed to have blood on it was recovered from Williams.
Residents who live along the border of the Hollow and West End neighborhoods said the confrontation could have ended even worse. They described the incident as both frightening and unsurprising.
Stephanie Murray‑Rosa, who frequents the area, said neighbors had long feared that escalating tensions on the block would eventually lead to violence.
Williams is charged with first-degree assault and failing to comply with fingerprinting and photographing requirements.
His bond was set at $100,000.
The victim is expected to survive.
