As the nation marks Juneteenth, the day that enslaved Texans learned of their freedom after the Civil War, Connecticut is remembering its own long journey to abolishing slavery.

Slavery officially ended in Connecticut in 1848, nearly two decades before Juneteenth. But the state was far behind neighboring states in granting enslaved people their freedom.
