A Weston man who has struggled with mental illness his whole life has found a way to help others.
Chris Fuller has turned his bipolar struggles into a one-man show, or what he now calls a two-man act. He credits The Shores Mental Health, Hartford HealthCare Behavioral Health Network in Westport, with saving his life.
Fuller developed a play called “Cheese Fries and Chili Dips,” a story about his struggles with mental illness and his quest to become a PGA Tour professional some 20 years ago. The play has serious but funny moments, with Fuller having conversations with the voice inside his head, played by Gary Betsworth.
Hollywood has already developed a screenplay, and a movie is in the works with an A-list actor.
Fuller recently completed a six-week step-down program at The Shores that he says turned his life around.
Fuller is performing his play Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the Westport Woman’s Club. He hopes to take his act on a national tour.
