The Connecticut Siting Council voted Thursday to reject United Illuminating's request to reopen its application to build monopoles from Fairfield to Bridgeport. The plan has gone before the council several times, with them first approving the plan but later rejecting it. Fairfield and Bridgeport officials have suggested that the power lines be underground. However, U.I. has said that this would add hundreds of millions of dollars to the cost - money that would be passed on to consumers.
