Some Connecticut lawmakers are scrambling to advance new protections for doctors who prescribe abortion pills through the mail, but they are running out of time. Neither the House nor the Senate has taken up the proposed “shield law,” and the legislative session ends tomorrow night.

The push follows a federal appeals court decision that blocked access to the drug mifepristone by mail. That ruling is currently on hold, but only for a week.

Liz Gustafson of Reproductive Equity Now said, “This bill would strengthen our existing shield law, ensuring that providers can deliver care via telehealth without fear of out‑of‑state interference.”

Supporters acknowledge the new measure is unlikely to pass before the session ends.
