Some people are still waking up without power Monday morning.
Large outages were reported across the state after Saturday night’s major storm. Most service has been restored, with only a handful of customers still without power as of 5 a.m. Monday.
Fire officials say an American flag flew off the WWE building during the storm and struck an Eversource transmission structure, causing a chain reaction of outages.
In Greenwich, businesses were forced to close due to the lack of power. Eversource says that as crews worked to remove the flag, it hit another line, knocking out power to more than 20,000 customers — nearly all customers in town.
Eversource says it is working to identify where the flag originated and notes it has strict protocols governing what is permitted on its infrastructure.
