A fuel spill at Ansonia High School over the weekend released 450 gallons of diesel.
The fire department says a valve malfunctioned and got stuck in the "on" position, causing the leak.
Crews worked for about four hours to contain the spill and prevent it from reaching a nearby reservoir.
The state's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection brought in a contractor to manage the cleanup.
