New Canaan officials are advising motorists that South Avenue is closed to through traffic Wednesday from Bank Street/Route 106 to Farm Road as Aquarion continues water main work in the area.

Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes and avoid the area if possible. Daily detours and closures are expected throughout the summer as work progresses along South Avenue between Harrison Avenue and Farm Road and on Farm Road between New Canaan High School and Saxe Middle School.

Local traffic, emergency vehicles and school buses will be allowed through the work zone. Officials said residents and others who need access to the area should speak with traffic personnel, who will work to accommodate travel needs when possible.
