A normally busy state road in New Canaan remains closed after a water main break. Newswell, Connecticut's Mark Sudall is at the corner of Route 106 and Weed Street near the Merritt Parkway with the very latest for us, Mark. Well, New Canaan Emergency Management says that Route 106 between Weed Street and Lapham Road will remain closed today, and that's actually coming from the state DOT. The water main break here has been repaired by Aquarium, but the road closure has caused some backups on some of the side streets. A lot of, I guess, reroute of people, a lot of traffic on other roads. Road repairs on Route 106 in New Canaan, also known as Old Stamford Road, have caused heavier delays on Weed Street and Lapham Road. Route 106 is a state road that gets you to the Merritt Parkway and Darien and Stamford. It is also the main way town school buses come to pick up kids in this part of town. By having to divert from here, it takes much longer to pick up children in the morning or. To actually drop them off in the afternoon and some of the stops are so close in there we can't even get to them because Route 106 is a state road, it has to be repaired in a particular way, not only for weight, but because of the specific height of the railroad overpass. It's disappointing, but you know things like this happen and we just have to kind of roll with the punches. Now folks in New Canaan who are going by car can get to the Merritt Parkway by Route 124. Train commuters who may use the Talmadge Hill station coming this way can also use the downtown stop in New Canaan. Mark Sudall, East 12th, Connecticut. If your commute takes you through New Canaan, you might want to give yourself some extra time tomorrow morning. Let's get things over to News 12 Connecticut's Justin Deves to explain. Well, take a look at how busy this intersection was during the evening commute. In the morning commute, you're probably going to get more of the same as crews work to try and fix this water main break here on Old Stamford Road. I'll definitely be finding alternate means to get to the Mayor Parkway in the morning, so Town officials expect Route 106 between Weed Street and Lapham Road to be closed until Wednesday morning for repairs. This intersection can get really, really busy in the morning. Um, it gets backed up both on Old Stamford Road and on Weed Street. Of course, having Old Stanford Road closed off certainly impacts Weed Street, so it, it, it does definitely get busy. It's a highly traveled area with the Merritt Parkway on and off ramps and the Talmage Hill train station close by. It just means that there are going to be a lot of, I guess, reroute of people, a lot of traffic on other roads, and. Yeah, it's gonna be a pain in the morning. Might be crowded, you know, maybe heavy traffic or a lot of people coming to. Norwalk, from Stanford, from different ways. Aquariion says two water mains run in the area. They didn't know which one was affected until crews started excavating Tuesday afternoon. Customers in the area, Aquarian says, may have had discolored water for a brief period of time.
