A Branford man faces over 100 charges after a suspicious package addressed to him was intercepted at John F. Kennedy International Airport, leading police to seize weapons, drugs and other items from his home.
On April 21, police were notified by the Department of Homeland Security Investigations that a suspicious package shipped from China and declared as an automotive fuel filter was intercepted at JFK.
Police say the package contained a firearm suppressor, and Alexander Oranzo was the intended recipient.
Oranzo is a convicted felon and is prohibited from having those types of items.
Officers conducted what they call a controlled delivery of the package to Oranzo's home. After he accepted the package, officers executed a search warrant.
Police found a total of 39 firearms, five suppressors, 58 high-capacity magazines, three sets of body armor, and several thousand rounds of ammunition. They also recovered eight ounces of marijuana, alprazolam and methadone. Officers also found materials that they say is consistent with ammunition manufacturing and a large quantity of Tannerite.
