A Stamford police officer turned himself in on Monday to face an assault charge in connection with a crash that left a man with serious injuries, state police say.
State police say Volodymyr Molchanov was driving more than 70 mph in front of
2635 Long Ridge Road on Oct. 12 when he slammed into an Uber around 4:30 a.m. They say that Molchanov sustained minor injuries and refused to take a blood or urine test at the hospital.
Stamford police say Molchanov has been with the department since November 2023 and was on limited duty after the crash. Since his arrest, he has been on administrative leave.
Stamford police also confirm that Molchanov's passenger, Alex Lauture, is an officer with the department and remains on regular duty. He has been an officer since December 2022.
Molchanov's arrest warrant says the Uber driver is still recovering from his injuries.
Molchanov is expected to appear in court May 4.
