A New Jersey man is accused of stealing a checkbook from a Darien business and writing a forged check, police say.
They say Akeem Adelekan, of East Orange, broke into Monarch Orthodontics on Sept. 12.
Police say a forged check written by Adelekan for $5,800 was deposited into an account under a woman's name. Authorities say that woman has denied she was involved in the incident and might be a victim of identity theft.
During their investigation, police also learned Adelekan has been linked to similar burglaries in Harrison, NY and has a criminal history in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He was found and detained by New Jersey Probation on Feb. 5.
Almost two weeks later, Adelekan was brought to the Darien police Department
He has been charged with identity theft, forgery, burglary and larceny.
