If you have yard waste to drop off in the city of Norwalk, hold on to it. The city's yard waste site is
closed until March 2 while Public Works crews clear snow from several streets in Norwalk and offload it at the site.
"We removing snow from Washington Street, Wall Street and Main Street to help free up some of the parking spaces for small businesses to be accessible," said Chris Torre, superintendent of Operations for Public Works.
The site has been closed since the
Jan. 25 snowstorm that dumped several inches of snow across the state and parts of the country. Although it is unlikely that residents have yard waste, Torre said commercial businesses pay to utilize the waste site.
The yard debris site is usually closed when there's a storm, but this year has been a tough winter with the freezing temperatures.
Fifteen Public Works trucks are currently on the road every day from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., hauling several loads of snow to the site.
"A lot of the snow that we're clearing is from parked cars that didn't move to during the storm to the garages, and that makes our job very difficult. So if you move your cars off of the road, it would save us from having to do this for three weeks after the storm," Torre said.
The site could be reopened as early as next week if snow removal efforts go according to plan.
