Three area baseball players were drafted by Major League Baseball this weekend.
Former Fairfield Prep pitcher Ryan Oshinskie went to the Milwaukee Brewers in the sixth round. The Stamford native attended Brown University but missed the season due to an elbow injury.
The Cleveland Guardians drafted former Joel Barlow High School pitcher Matt Scott in the eighth round. Scott graduated from the school in 2022. He was a member of the Georgia Bulldog team that made it to the College World Series last year.
Ridgefield native Matthew Buccierro became a part of the White Sox organization in the 10th round. Buccierro played for Fairfield University and led the Stags in home runs, RBIs, as well as total bases and runs this past season.
UConn player Charlie West was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the seventh round. West earned first team all-Big East honors this season after leading the conference with 111 strikeouts.
He is the 80th Husky drafted under head coach Jim Penders, extending UConn's streak of 21 seasons with at least one player drafted or signed by a major league organization.
