A motorcycle crash on I-95 North in Milford shut down a stretch of the interstate Thursday afternoon, backing up traffic for miles.
State police said they responded to a crash near exit 38 around 12:20 p.m. and found a rider with serious injuries.
The incident led them to divert northbound traffic off the interstate at exit 36, closing the highway to exit 38. At one point, traffic was at a standstill all the way to exit 30 in Bridgeport. That led to massive delays on the Post Road and side streets throughout Milford and neighboring Stratford.
News 12 spoke with one woman, who said it took her over two hours to get from exit 27A in Bridgeport to exit 36, all with a young child who needed a bathroom.
“We were completely stopped, completely stopped. No movement at all—to the point where I couldn't even see ahead of me. I couldn't look around cars,” said Sarah Tolson, of West Haven.
Ramone Morgan, of Westchester, New York, was test-driving a car from Colonial Toyota and got stuck in the backup.
“This is the longest test drive I've ever been on and actually, I’m getting to see the full effect of the car and how it handles traffic,” Morgan said, adding that a 20-minute test drive had turned into 45 minutes with no end in sight.
The left and center lanes of I-95 North were opened back up around 3 p.m.
