A house fire broke out Monday morning on Maplewood Avenue just before 9 a.m., according to the Bridgeport Fire Department.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the basement.

No injuries were reported, but the American Red Cross is assisting with the displacement of 6 adults and 1 child.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
