The local car community will gather this weekend to remember Spencer Jorgenson, who died in a single-car crash over Fourth of July weekend.
The 19-year-old was traveling westbound on I-84 in Southbury late at night when state police say his car veered off the road, went through a guardrail and down a hill.
Jorgenson was a car enthusiast planning on joining the military, friends say.
Miguel Santos says Jorgenson was a friendly face at local car shows, sometimes even traveling hours away to help with events.
"A person that had a lot of brightness in him," says Santos. "He lit up the room when you met him."
Over the past few weeks, the car community has helped raise more than to $16,000 for Jorgenson's family.
Proceeds from a car show in Oxford on Saturday, Santos says, will also go toward helping the family.
"The one good thing I will say in the past few weeks has been the support from the community," says Santos. "Make your memories as best as you can and enjoy life as it is."
