The Mardi Bras campaign is back for another year. The month-long initiative is organized by The Undies Project, a nonprofit in Greenwich that provides new underwear to men, women and children in need.
For the last 11 years, Mardi Bras has provided bras to women and girls in need.
"This is an overlooked need. It's an unmet need that really provides women with dignity, hygiene and the opportunity to go out and go in the workforce, and continue their education," said Amanda Schietzelt, volunteer and board member at The Undies Project.
Last year, the campaign collected approximately 3,000 bras. This year, the goal was increased to 4,000.
"We're hoping to help 2,000 women. We want to give each woman two bras," Schietzelt said.
Local organizations like the Junior League of Greenwich are hosting donations drives.
"When they are working towards survival in so many other ways, to have them take something new, that makes it easier for them to focus on other things other than the basic needs, means the world," said Sammie Lazar Jacobs, president of the Junior League of Greenwich.
Donations are being accepted until March 17. You can also donate online, by shopping at The Undies Project Wishlist.
On March 19, volunteers will sort the bras by size and get them ready for distribution.
