They say every dog has its day.
Edgehill, a senior living community in Stamford, held its own version of the popular 'Westminster' dog show for the second straight year.
"There might be some barking," co-organizer Nancy Stillerman says. "I hope there's no 'piddling."
Fourteen pups strutted their stuff, and a silent auction raised money for a worthy cause.
The event raised money for the Bennett Cancer Center's Hope in Motion Walk.
Joan Weisman, the chairman of Team Edgehill, says the group has raised a whopping $500,000 for cancer patients in need over the past 12 years.
"We raise money for cancer patients and also for Alzheimer's research," Wesiman says. "We have the most fun, we're the most productive, we feel wonderful about it, and it makes us feel youthful that we're not too old to do some good."
Ginny Landle of the Stamford Hospital Foundation says the money raised helps cancer patients pay for transportation to and from cancer treatments, lunches during chemotherapy, massage therapy, and more.
"We can't thank them enough for all they've done over the years for us," Landle says. "This is just such a fun way to celebrate it."
"I feel worthwhile," Stillerman says. "I feel that as a senior, and as an older senior, we can still do what we can do to give back to the community."
