Police in several local towns and cities say they’ve had enough of speeding.

They are urging drivers to slow down on some of the busiest roads and at dangerous intersections to help save lives.

In Stamford, police say Washington Boulevard at Broad Street and Washington Boulevard at Tresser Boulevard are the two most dangerous intersections in the city.

There have been hundreds of crashes at those locations, including incidents that have killed pedestrians.

Stamford has recorded one pedestrian fatality so far this year. Police say that is one too many.

Last year, the city had three pedestrian fatalities, down from eight the year before. Statewide, fatalities have also declined. In 2022, Connecticut recorded nearly 400 deaths, a record high.

Officials say a dangerous stretch of Washington Boulevard is a state road, and the city is working with the state to install raised crosswalks to help slow traffic.

Police say improving safety comes down to education, engineering and enforcement.

Canal Street and other roads near Interstate 95 have also seen serious crashes.

Police say they hope speed cameras could be installed in the city by the start of the school year later this summer.
