The Bridgeport Public Library partnered with Bridgeport Public Schools for March to promote literacy and reading.
The goal is ensure students and their families have access to books, literacy resources and free educational programming.
Library officials say concerns about losing school librarians for the 2026-2027 school year reinforced the need for them to expand their partnerships.
Throughout the month, all third-grade classes will visit the closest library branch for a 90-minute experience. During their visits, students learn how the library works, participate in story time and craft activities and check out a book.
The library is also working with the district to distribute library card applications, so students can take advantage of their services.
As of August 2025, families who registered their children for school at the Central Registration Enrollment Center at CT State Housatonic are able to apply for library cards during the process.
