State Representative Chris Rosario joined acting Bridgeport School Superintendent Dr. Royce Avery in pushing for a plan Monday that would give city schools more funding.

Rosario said he supports an effort endorsed by House Democrats to redirect $150 million from Gov. Ned Lamont's proposal to give more than 2 million Connecticut residents rebates of between $200 and $400 to help offset the high cost of energy and inflation.

"Us urban legislators and those communities that are experiencing drastic cuts in education feel those funds would be better served to address our education," Rosario said.

Meantime, Avery urged parents and students to show their support for the cause by testifying before state lawmakers on Bridgeport Day on April 22.

"I'm going to do what I gotta do to fight the fight, and so I need this community, I need the mayor, city council, to stand with me -- and that's what this is all about, standing together on behalf of the children of Bridgeport," Avery said.
