A Bridgeport barber shop celebrated National Mentoring Day on Saturday by pairing young people with adult mentors during their hair cuts.
Kings of Fades Barber Shop on State Street held the event every Saturday during National Mentoring Month.
"I spent 21 years incarcerated in a federal penitentiary and my goal is, always been, always, to try and encourage young people not to take the path I took that cost me half my life in a cell," said Tony Barr, of Bridgeport.
Organizers said mentoring is a highly effective strategy for reducing violent crime.
