The Connecticut Board of Regents for Higher Education announced Monday the appointment of Natalie Braswell as the interim chancellor of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities.

Braswell is currently the general counsel to Gov. Ned Lamont.

Officials say she will serve in the position for just a year while CSCU conducts a nationwide search for permanent system leader beginning in fall 2026.

"Natalie is a steady hand. Time and again, she has stepped into challenging situations, tackled tough issues head-on, and delivered results when the stakes were high. Natalie doesn’t back down when something gets difficult. She brings steady leadership, sound judgment, and a deep commitment to public service, and I know she is exactly the right person to help CSCU turn the page and continue focusing on what matters most: delivering opportunity and success for our students," says Lamont.

As News 12 has reported, Dr. John Maduko, the former interim chancellor, resigned in April over an investigation into personal conduct.

On May 15, CSCU said Maduko was being investigated for sexual harassment following a complaint filed by a female employee. He is alleged to have sent sexually suggestive texts to the woman.

The woman, who has never been identified, said she complained to CSCU leadership, but nothing was done.

Maduko was not the only education official who was forced out following the scandal. Three days after the Maduko's texts were released, the chair of the Connecticut Board of Regents for Higher Education also abruptly resigned.

Lamont confirmed the following day that he asked Marty Guay to resign. Lamont named Guay's replacement Friday.
