A bird was rescued from a fishing line in Fairfield Thursday, officials say.

The Fairfield County Regional Dispatch Center received a call from a resident about a bird in distress in a body of water.

Firefighters and Animal Control Officers used their water rescue equipment to approach the bird, who was entangled in fishing line.

First responders found a fishhook embedded under the bird's wing to prevent it from flying away.

Once the bird was brought to shore, crews used small hand tools to surgically remove the hook. They say the freed bird was weak.

Animal Control Officers took the bird to a local veterinarian.
