Malia Hall, 7, suffered a stroke at birth due to a rare bleeding disorder called Neonatal Alloimmune Thrombocytopenia, or NAIT.
"But it hasn't slowed us down as a family at all," Malia's mom, Nathalie Hall, told News 12. "It's merely inspired us to build awareness about the condition -- and to show other families who might be facing a challenge that they're not alone."
Malia and her mom hosted a 5K run, in partnership with Nike, at Bridgeport’s Seaside Park.
"We want everyone to see how much love and support there is out there -- and the importance of working together as a community to overcome any challenge," Nathalie Hall said.
