Two men have admitted to participating in a multi-million-dollar embezzlement scheme involving the Success Village Apartments in Bridgeport and Stratford.
Former general manager Charles Pitcher and Carmine Gentile, part owner of a plumbing company that worked for the apartment complex, pleaded guilty this week to conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
Prosecutors say vendors, including Gentile's company, submitted fraudulent invoices and payment requests to Success Village for work that was never performed or at highly inflated prices.
Pitcher and another unidentified individual had vendors divert approximately 10% to 30% of the payments back to them in exchange for receiving work and payments from Success Village, according to prosecutors.
Investigators believe the scheme operated from June 2022 through September 2024.
Pitcher and Gentile have since agreed to pay millions of dollars in restitution and were released on bond pending sentencing.
