New details have been released about a wanted man who eluded Stamford police on the West Side of the city on Sept. 22. Capt. Douglas Deiso says 27-year-old Damani Morales is a convicted felon with gun charges and is known to have violent tendencies.
Authorities are now pleading with the public to help bring him into custody.
"The Stamford Police Department has a very, very unique relationship with the community," Deiso says. "Usually, when we look for their assistance, they usually come through for us."
Police say it started when Morales gave officers a fake name while being questioned at a disturbance call.
Once police found out who he actually was, Deiso says Morales ran away.
Authorities discovered he had family living at a home on Rose Park Avenue in Stamford.
When police arrived, Deiso says the door of the home was open, even though family said no one was supposed to be there.
The street was shut down for hours as the special response team used flash bangs and an armored truck to try and take Morales into custody.
But police never found him and Morales is still on the run.
Deiso is hoping a tip from the public will lead to an arrest.
"We want the public to know that we are doing everything in our ability to try and apprehend him," Deiso says. "You do know that you're wanted... Just turn yourself in so it's safe for everyone that's involved."
Anyone with information regarding Morales’ whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Stamford Police Department Crime Stoppers Tip Line 203-977-TIPS (8477).
