Thursday will be the hottest day, as temperatures away from the Sound shore will climb to near 90 degrees.
Showers and thunderstorms, along with a cold front, approach the area Thursday night, but it doesn't look like much if any will make it through.
There is another chance on Friday after about dinnertime and then again on Saturday.
This will break the high heat, with temperatures returning to normal over the weekend and early next week.
The air quality will also continue to deteriorate, and another air quality alert will most likely be issued.
The air will be unhealthy for sensitive individuals, and they are encouraged to limit their exposure outdoors.
