A judge dropped all animal cruelty charges against a Redding woman on Wednesday at Danbury Superior Court.

Nancy Burton had faced 65 counts of animal cruelty.

The judge ordered the charges dropped after the court found she had successfully completed her two-year accelerated rehabilitation program.

Burton’s animal cruelty charges stemmed from the neglect of dozens of live and dead goats seized on her Cross Highway property by the Connecticut Department of Agriculture in 2021. The Redding Police Department had also received more than 120 complaints from neighbors.

Burton was determined to get her goats back. Connecticut Attorney General William Tong had implored the court to hear testimony from neighbors and the state. Neighbors and animal rights groups say what happened on her property was a crime.

Since these charges were first filed, the town of Redding has updated its zoning regulations to allow for fines and zoning violations.
