Police: New Haven man had multiple bags of drugs and a loaded gun inside vehicle
A New Haven man is facing numerous charges for possessing drugs and a gun in Woodbridge, police say. Police responded to Baldwin Road around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday for a crash. While on their way, officers learned that the driver, Jaivon Williams, was allegedly removing the license plate from the vehicle and was trying to leave the scene. Police say officers soon saw Williams walking nearby. He allegedly told police that he was involved in the accident. An investigation revealed that Williams left a backpack that contained a Smith & Weston M&P firearm in the car. Police say the gun had 21 rounds loaded in a magazine and one chambered round. There were also drugs and drug paraphernalia inside the bag, according to officials. During a search of the vehicle, police found additional drugs and paraphernalia. In total, police seized three bags of cocaine and fentanyl, all weighing different amounts, along with four bags of marijuana and fentanyl. Williams' charges include criminal possession of a firearm and possession of narcotics with the intent to sell. He was detained at police headquarters on a $500,000 bond before being taken to New Haven Superior Court on Wednesday.
