A 61-year-old man who was critically injured when he was pulled into an MRI machine by his necklace has died from his injuries, according to Nassau County police.
The incident
happened Wednesday afternoon at Nassau Open MRI in Westbury, Long Island. Nassau County police say the man entered an MRI room unauthorized while the scan was in progress.
Police say that the man was wearing a large, metallic chain around his neck, which caused him to be drawn into the machine, causing a “medical episode.”
The man, who was not yet identified, died Thursday afternoon, according to police.
News 12 spoke to the wife of Keith, the Nassau County man who died after he was pulled into an MRI machine as she watched in horror.
She said that her husband had been wearing a 20-pound chain around his neck as a form of weight training when he entered the room and that a technician had allowed him.
"I saw when he walked towards the table, I seen when he turned towards me and saw the machine snatch him around and pull him into the machine," she told News 12. "He went limp in my arms, and this is still pulsating in my brain."
