Several local organizations and businesses are stepping up to help the victims of the Texas flood.
Americares has a response team of two specialists on the ground headed to Texas to assess the immediate needs.
"It's absolutely heartbreaking. I am a Mom and the images, the stories that I'm hearing, that we're all hearing are absolutely devastating," said Americares Chief Medical Officer Julie Varughese.
Varughese says she can't imagine what families impacted by the Texas floods are going through. She says Americares is ready to help.
"We are prepared to send a medical team, provide mental health support, emergency funding. It really depends on what the specific needs are for the communities that are impacted," said Varughese.
"I'm asking for local businesses to get involved," said Sky Mercede at Forever Sweet Bakery in Norwalk.
Mercede is asking people and businesses to collect needed items for the flood victims.
"Donate bottles of water, toiletries, diapers. Things that they need right away," said Mercede.
There are drop-off locations at Forever Sweet, Planet Pizza and Mike's Deli.
"This small, tight Norwalk community steps up when people need help, and I think that a lot of my customers will be willing to contribute," said Michelle Petrides at Mike's Deli.
Mercede says one Norwalk business owner who is taking care of a family member in Alabama saw our report this morning and is donating a truck. Mercede has also reached out to the Salvation Army.
