After more than two years of renovations, Norwalk's historic Lockwood-Mathews Mansion is set to reopen.

The work that has been done was a labor of love that preserves Norwalk’s history for generations to come.

State Sen. Bob Duff, Mayor Harry Rilling and vice chairman of the museum Patsy Brescia cut the ribbon on Tuesday morning.

The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion is unveiling mechanical upgrades, newly restored spaces and artifacts and a rare discovery for an enhanced, year-round visitor experience. The $18 million project was made possible through state grants and fundraising that started almost 10 years ago when then Gov. Dannel Malloy was in office.

"This is something that is uniquely our own. Something that Norwalk deserves," said Duff.

The museum will not officially be open to the public until June 4.
