Hundreds gathered at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain Saturday for the funeral of Plainville firefighter Ray Moreau, who died in the line of duty
last Sunday.
While responding to a fire on Maria Road, a piece of
firefighting equipment broke off and hit Moreau, causing catastrophic injuries to his leg. The 60-year-old later died at New Britain General Hospital.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled his death an accident and determined the cause was blunt force trauma to his head, neck, torso and extremities.
Family, friends and first responders from around the state, including members of the Newington Volunteer Fire Department, attended the services to show their respects.
"When one hurts, we all hurt. And it doesn't have to be a firefighter – it could be police, EMS, any first responder. We are always around to show our support," said Capt. Kirk Rosemond
Moreau served as a volunteer firefighter for 35 years and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
