A goat was killed in Monroe early Wednesday morning after an animal enclosure caught fire on Barn Hill Road, according to fire officials.

Volunteer firefighters say a second goat was able to escape the shed fire without injury.

Firefighters used a long hose stretch to put out the fire from a yard on Blue Spruce Lane.

Crews were on scene for about an hour.
